DIY Glitter & Studded Sneakers

Do you remember when the Miu Miu glitter sneakers came into town ? I was never a fan of anything glitter, but those sneakers sure caught my attention. Of course, like most people, I couldn’t justify spending that much on sneakers, whereas skyscraper heels – that I can barely walk in – are totally worth it. But do not fear because a DIY version of them is here ! So let me show you how you can make your own version for less.
You will need the following :

  • a pair of white converse trainers
  • 8 ounces (225ml) of Decopatch glue. In America, you can use Mod Podge
  • Glitter – 30 to 50 grams
  • A small bowl or container
  • Adhesive
  • A brush
  • Masking tape
  • An assortment of studs
Tape around the edges of the shoes, as well as the front part becuase that is where you will be placing the studs later on.

Add one part glitter to two parts Decopatch (or Mod Podge) and mix thoroughly.

Make sure to stuff your sneakers with old newspapers to protect the inside from any glue that may drip

Using the brush, apply the glitter mixture on to your sneakers, being careful around the holes where the laces will loop through. I suggest doing 2-3 layers in order to completely cover the area with glitter. Allow 15 – 20 minutes of drying time between each layer. When it is completely dry, carefully peel off the masking tape.

Using the adhesive, glue your studs on to the front of the shoe in whichever pattern you like

When the adhesive on the studs is completely dry, you can now wear your sneakers. Some of you may like to wear them with the laces, some of you, without !

And if you don’t fancy getting your hands a bit messy, here are some ready-to-buy options below :
