Batakari

Have you ever worn something in a manner that is not traditional to how it is supposed to be worn? I remember seeing batakalis everywhere when I was in Ghana, not so long ago. Local men wore them, as well as tourists and I couldn’t help thinking about how much they reminded me Isabel Marant’s Ready To Wear SS15 collection. If you don’t know what I am talking about, google it, and if warrior princess does not come to your mind when you see the collection, then you and I see the world differently, my friend. There is something gladiator and tribal in her collection and that is a feeling I had when seeing these shirts in Ghana.  I opted for a large men’s size because I wanted to wear my batakali like a dress and pair it with my  gladiator heels.

It may not be a look for everyone but for me, this is my interpretation. But speaking of everyone, I did bring back a few extra pieces that I want to add to my vintage store Zenzele. Although I have taken a temporary break from selling on Asos Marketplace, I have been making use of Depop for the time being. Until I get together some more amazing pieces from my travels this summer, you will have to wait until August to get your hands on one of these – unless you can hop on a plane to Ghana of course !
